JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Brooklyn Philharmonic is looking for an intern from June through August, 2012. The internship will involve assisting the Associate Director of Development, the Interim Director of Education, and the Production Manager. These tasks will include, but are not limited to:

• Assisting with the creation of 2012-2013 education programs
• Coordinating and attending neighborhood host committee events
• Researching and preparing for our 2012-2013 concert season
• Drafting grant proposals and preparing grant-related materials
• Attending and representing the Brooklyn Philharmonic at community events
• Assisting in administrative tasks

QUALIFICATIONS:
We are looking for candidates who:

• Have just completed their freshman or sophomore year of college;
• Show demonstrable financial need;
• Excel academically;
• Are active in their communities;
• Show leadership potential;
• Have an interest in mentorship and professional development;
• Are passionate about social change and community and public service work, and
• Are interested in working in Brooklyn-based organizations.

This internship will be funded by an organization that provides grants to Brooklyn-based non-profits with summer interns. Thus the potential intern would apply for this grant in conjunction with the Brooklyn Philharmonic.

TIME COMMITMENT AND COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) internship for 10 weeks from June through August, 2012. The intern will receive a $3,000 stipend.

The Summer Chamber Music Fellowship Program is a four-week, intensive chamber music program for string players and pianists ages 18-26. Fellowships are awarded to a small number of dedicated and motivated students who will receive individual lessons and coachings from members of the Garth Newel Piano Quartet as well as a variety of distinguished visiting professionals. Both pre-formed groups and individuals are encouraged to apply. Each participant receives a Fellowship Award valued at $2500, which covers the cost of tuition, room and board for the four weeks. Upon acceptance, each student pays a $200 registration fee.

Garth Newel Music Center sits in the heart of Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains which have been a retreat destination since the 18th Century. With comfortable guest rooms, gourmet cuisine, and a tranquil country setting, the Center offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience chamber music of the highest caliber. Yearly activities presented by Garth Newel Music Center include over fifty performances by the Garth Newel Piano Quartet and guest musicians, as well as a number of educational opportunities.

Garth Newel Music Center’s unique Fellowship program offers students a professional, relaxed environment that is conducive to the focused study, practice and performance of chamber music. During the four weeks, students will refine their ensemble skills, learn repertoire, and focus on intensive ensemble practice. Since the four-week program coincides with the Garth Newel Summer Chamber Music Festival, students will have the opportunity to:

• Attend two concerts each week in Garth Newel’s Herter Hall, performed by the Garth Newel Music Center’s resident musicians and numerous guest artists.
• Attend open rehearsals
• Study and connect with renowned guest artists in the relaxed atmosphere unique to Garth Newel

The Medieval town of Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany is in Bavaria, near Nuremberg, Regensberg, and Munich. 28th Summer Music Festival and Orchestra

Now in its 28th season, the Colorado College Summer Music Festival is an intensive three-week program for 45 advanced student musicians, including violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, timpani/percussion and piano.

Festival participants work closely with the faculty, who spend many hours coaching small ensembles, private lessons, and master classes. In addition, the faculty teach sessions that are particularly valuable for pre-professional students, including courses that discuss strategies for practice, improvisation, and how to perform and relate to colleagues in chamber ensembles and orchestra. Mock auditions are also part of the curriculum, which includes information on how to prepare for orchestral auditions. Participation in the festival, both in chamber ensembles and the orchestra, offers each student the opportunity to learn and perform the best of the standard repertoire.

All students participate in a concert series including formal and informal chamber music concerts, five orchestra performances, including a free children's concert, and several off-campus outreach concerts. Six to eight students are chosen by audition for concerto readings with the orchestra in performances that are open to the public. Chamber music performances are held in Packard Hall, a modern, acoustically superb, 300-seat concert hall. The Festival Orchestra concerts are held in the Edith Kinney Gaylord Cornerstone Arts Center South Theater, a 450-seat cutting-edge “tuned” room with the latest acoustical and amplification capabilities. The Cornerstone Arts Center was built in 2008 and is a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary space designed by acclaimed architect Antoine Predock.

The ALEA III International Composition Competition

About the Prize

The ALEA III International Composition Prize was established in 1980 and has also been known under the names of the Politis Composition Prize and the Kucyna International Composition Prize. We are proud to announce that the Greek ministry of culture and Boston University will continue the sponsorship of the ALEA III Competition. The purpose of the prize is to promote and encourage the composition of new music. Several works will be chosen for performance.

ALEA III, Performing Arts Ensemble in Residence at Boston University, under the direction of Theodore Antoniou, will rehearse and perform the compositions of the finalists. ALEA III is well known for its dedication to the presentation of new works and, owing to its flexible instrumentation, is uniquely suited to the performing group for this competition. Among the judges will be well known personalities of the Boston music scene.

One work will be selected for a $2,500 cash award, which will be announced in late September, or early October 2012. (The judges reserve the right to divide the award money or to decline to make any award.)

College Program
Each year the College division enrolls approximately 220 students, ages 18 through 29, who have completed a year as a full-time college student. In addition to current undergraduates, many students in the program have graduated or are presently enrolled for graduate study.

Four programs of study are available:
- Piano
- Orchestral Studies
- Composition
- Opera

Students in the orchestral studies, piano, and composition programs receive weekly private lessons from Brevard's artist faculty and may participate in studio or master classes. Opera students receive private coachings in lieu of lessons.

Instrumentalists may elect to play chamber music with formal coaching by faculty members.

Students have the opportunity to perform solo and chamber music in Brevard's weekly student recitals.

There are formal, required classes for students in Piano, Composition, and Opera, and sectional rehearsals for students in Orchestral Studies.

Campus life policies for college students are liberal, analogous to those found on many college campuses.

Young Artists Program (June 7 - July 1):
Since 1981, PianoTexas International Academy & Festival has established itself as one of the most esteemed summer programs in the world. The Young Artists Program is a highly intensive and challenging program for gifted and serious young pianists aspiring to be future concert artists. All pianists born on or after July 1, 1983 are eligible to apply as performers. The observers program is open to all ages, and has two categories: active observers who will receive private lessons, and general observers who will attend as listeners only.

The Festival:
After the success of our 30th Anniversary program that focused on Beethoven, we are proud to continue this format with the music of Franz Schubert. Each of the recitals by our guest artists Paul Badura-Skoda, Inon Barnatan, Akiko Ebi, Simone Pedroni, and Yeuleum Son will present a major work by this great composer. A concert with Leon Fleisher, Katherine Jacobson Fleisher will feature works for four hands and Harold Martina and Tamás Ungár will perform the complete piano trios. It is unfortunate that Schubert did not write piano concertos, however we have provided a large list of repertoire for the Young Artists Concerto Competition with the winners performing with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Miguel Harth-Bedoya (Artistic Director of the FWSO) and Leon Fleisher.

The Academy:
In 2012 the focus will be the works of Franz Schubert. Any of his piano works will be welcome and greatly encouraged in both master classes and private lessons. At the same time we also invite repertoire of other composers. The chamber music sessions will feature the two trios and quintet of Schubert together with other selected repertoire and for the first time in the history of PianoTexas we are introducing collaboration with voice through the selection of Schubert's wonderful lieder.

Eligibility Requirements:
The Cortona Sessions is open to anyone age 18 and above. Performers with all levels of contemporary music experience are encouraged to apply. No one under the age of 18 is allowed at the Cortona Sessions.

Composition Program
The composition program is open to up to 12 composers age 18 and above. In addition to lessons and coachings, composition participants will receive premieres of one or two new works written specifically for the Cortona Sessions, and will also have the opportunity to compete in the Cortona Sessions Iron Composer Competition.

Performance Program
The 2012 Cortona Sessions will be open to performers on any instrument (including voice) age 18 and above. Participants in the performance program will prepare multiple works submitted by festival composers for premiere performances, in addition to concerts of standard contemporary repertoire. Additionally, performers may present other contemporary repertoire in masterclasses with Cortona Sessions faculty. All performers will receive private lessons and coachings with faculty, and will work directly with festival composers in preparing premiere performances. Performers will also have the opportunity to participate in the first Cortona Sessions Contemporary Performance Competition.

Auditor Program
The auditor program allows any performer or composer not attending the Cortona Sessions as a full participant. Auditors may attend all lectures, symposiums, and recitals, and may take private lessons with faculty if time allows. Auditor composers are welcome and encouraged to perform their works on evening recitals, and to present in participant show-and-tells.

Groupie Program
Musicians love groupies! The Cortona Sessions Groupie Program is intended for friends and family of participants, as well as to provide a musical vacation for anyone wanting to enjoy the beauty of Tuscany and a bit of fantastic music making. Groupies will receive lodging at the Hotel Oasi Neumann and may attend all festival activities. Groupies are even invited to sit-in on lessons or coachings as they desire. Groupies will be included in any festival-scheduled activity, including the excursions and all festival parties.

The cost of the program for singers is $1500 plus $2000 housing for a total of $3500. Pianists pay no tuition, but must pay $1500 for housing.

Now entering its 8th summer of study abroad, Canta in Italia “Sing in Italy” offer singers the unforgettable experience of living and studying in the beautiful Tuscan city of Lucca. Located 45 minutes west of Florence, the city where opera was born, Lucca offers a small town experience with easy access to Italy's major cultural center. Puccini, Boccherini and Catalani were all born in Lucca, know throughout Italy as "the musical city". Lucca's renaissance architecture and medieval walls make this lovely town a popular Tuscan destination. From June 3 through June 29, students are immersed in Italian language and culture, and stimulated by an intensive course of vocal study and performance.

The program includes daily language instruction by native speakers, daily voice lesson and/or coaching sessions, and weekly master classes. Music and staging rehearsals fill out the afternoon hours. Optional college credit is offered through Wichita State University.

Weekend excursions may include visits to museums, churches or other historic sites including the Pitti Palace, Santa Croce church where Rossini is buried, and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

Keshet Eilon International Violin and String Mastercourse

The Mastercourse is the flagship program of the Keshet Eilon Music Center, which is moving toward becoming a year round center for string performance and education. The Mastercourse is held every summer for a three-week period. Built around an intensive series ofmasterclasses, personal lessons and student concerts, the programis ledby internationally known teachers and artists from all parts of the world. Participants have the opportunity to gain experience in solo and ensemble performances before audiences in the kibbutz, throughout the Western Galilee region and in Tel Aviv.

Candidacy:
The Mastercourse is intended for gifted young violinists, violist and cellist of all nationalities, ages 16 to 26, who have attained a high standard of performance. Participants must be able to communicate in and understand English, the official language of the course.

Carmel Music Society - Vocal Competition

The 2012 Competition is open to vocalists who are at least 18 years of age but are no older

than 32 years of age on the day of the Competition. The $5,000 Grand Prize consists of a

$3,000 cash award and a $2,000 contract to appear in May/June 2013, during the following season of the Carmel Music Society’s subscription series of recitals. A $2,000 Second Prize and a $1,500 Third Prize will be awarded. Each remaining finalist will be awarded $500. A fee of $100 per performance will be deducted from all awards to cover the cost of the accompanist.

Final Recital Round (presented as a public recital at the Taiwan Center on Main Street in Flushing NY):

March 25, 2012 at 4:00 PM

Judges will include a representative from IMG Artists; Masako Yanagita, QSO Concertmaster; David

Moore, QSO Principal Cellist; and Constantine Kitsopoulos, QSO Music Director.

Senior Division – must be between 18 and 22 years of age as of June 30, 2012:

First Prize: Full concerto performance with QSO on a Festival Concert and $1000 cash.

Second Prize: Movement from a concerto performance with QSO on a Young People’s Concert

and $750 cash.

Third Prize: $500 cash.

Junior Division – must be under 18 years of age as of June 30, 2012:

First Prize: Movement from a concerto performance with QSO on a Young People’s concert or

Summer Parks Concert and $750 cash.

Second Prize: A performance at a QSO event and $500 cash.
