Garth Newel Music Center Summer Chamber Music Fellowship Program

 The Summer Chamber Music Fellowship Program is a four-week, intensive chamber music program for string players and pianists ages 18-26.  Fellowships are awarded to a small number of dedicated and motivated students who will receive individual lessons and coachings from members of the Garth Newel Piano Quartet as well as a variety of distinguished visiting professionals.  Both pre-formed groups and individuals are encouraged to apply.  Each participant receives a Fellowship Award valued at $2500, which covers the cost of tuition, room and board for the four weeks.  Upon acceptance, each student pays a $200 registration fee.

Garth Newel Music Center sits in the heart of Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains which have been a retreat destination since the 18th Century.  With comfortable guest rooms, gourmet cuisine, and a tranquil country setting, the Center offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience chamber music of the highest caliber.  Yearly activities presented by Garth Newel Music Center include over fifty performances by the Garth Newel Piano Quartet and guest musicians, as well as a number of educational opportunities.

Garth Newel Music Center’s unique Fellowship program offers students a professional, relaxed environment that is conducive to the focused study, practice and performance of chamber music.  During the four weeks, students will refine their ensemble skills, learn repertoire, and focus on intensive ensemble practice.  Since the four-week program coincides with the Garth Newel Summer Chamber Music Festival, students will have the opportunity to:

• Attend two concerts each week in Garth Newel’s Herter Hall, performed by the Garth Newel Music Center’s resident musicians and numerous guest artists.
• Attend open rehearsals
• Study and connect with renowned guest artists in the relaxed atmosphere unique to Garth Newel

Activities
The program offers:
• Three to five chamber music coachings per week
• Private Lessons
• Master classes; performance classes
• Performance opportunities at various venues in Virginia as well as on the main stage during the Garth Newel Summer Chamber Music Festival.
