Bayerische Staatsoper Opernstudio Auditions for the 12/13 Season

The Opernstudio - the Young Artist Program of the Bavarian State Opera - spports eight highly talented young aritists each season and prepares them for an international career in step with actual practice. The program runs one to two seasons and consists of role studies, vocal lessons, acting and movement classes as well as language training. The young artists are cast for small roles in productions on the main stage and take part in several concert projects. In addition, the Openstudio members study and perform one complete opera each season.

The age limit is 28 years for female and 30 years for male applicants on the closing date. Interested singers can apply via regular mail or online at www.staatsoper.de/opera-studio

- a recording of 3 arias or songs (including one aria by Mozart and if possible one German aria)

The Orpheus Vocal Competition

Welcome

Beginning in 1996, the Middle Tennessee Choral Society has sponsored the annual Orpheus Vocal Competition to provide financial support and encouragement to singers age 19 to 30 from around the United States who are pursuing careers as vocal artists. Orpheus is the only competition of its kind in the south central United States.

There are 2 categories in Orpheus:

  • Student: for ages 19-24
  • Young Artist: for ages 25-30

This year the Society will be awarding grand prizes of $3,000 for the Student winner and $5,000 for the Young Artist winner. Additional prizes will be awarded by individuals and corporations. For a listing of prizes awarded in past Orpheus Competitions, visit the Awards page.

Requirements

  • Competition is open to any singer who has completed or is in the process of completing an accredited music education.
  • Applicants must have reached their 19th birthday and may not have reached their 31st birthday by the application deadline.
  • Applicants must submit, by the application deadline, CDs (no cassette tapes) containing two of the selections on the applicant's list of repertoire. Recordings must be accompanied by a completed application form, an updated resume, a current photo, and proof of date of birth.
  • Applicants must provide a program of the following selections:
    • In the Young Artist category: 3 operatic arias in various styles and languages and one aria from standard oratorio.
    • In the Student category: 2 art songs in various styles and languages, 1 operatic aria, and 1 aria from standard oratorio.
  • Only singers who are seriously pursuing careers as vocal artists need apply.
  • Each completed application form must be accompanied by a non-refundable application fee of $50made to Middle Tennessee Choral Society.
  • Information regarding housing, transportation, and performance dress will be included with semi-finalist notification.
  • Afternoon recital attire is standard.

YOUNG ARTISTS’ CONCERTO COMPETITION 2011-2012

The Livingston Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce its Thirty-Fifth Annual Concerto Competition, which will be held on Sunday, December 18th, 2011. This year’s competition as on will focus on instrumentalists. The Winner will perform as soloist with the orchestra on Saturday evening, March 24, 2012, and will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship at that time. Please be sure to read the following rules and regulations thoroughly and carefully.

THE RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THIS COMPETITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:

1. Applications and the Registration Fee of $48.00 (check or money order made payable to Livingston Symphony Orchestra) are due November 15th, 2011. Please mail application to:

Any applications arriving after November 15th, 2011 will not be accepted.
2. Candidates must be a Legal Resident of New Jersey, although applicants may be residing outside the state temporarily at School, College, or Conservatory.
3. Age limitations: Applicants must have reached the age of 14 but not have exceeded the age of 21 as of December 31, 2011.
4. The selection of the work to be preformed is the choice of the performer. Any major work written for instrument with orchestral accompaniment as well as standard concerto will be accepted. Examples: Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor, or Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor, Op 47. All movements must be performed from memory. Accompanists need not perform from memory, and should limit introductions and interludes for the sake of time.
5. Please have (3) copies of the score to give to the judges at the time of the audition.
6. Performers will NOT be heard without an accompanist. Responsibility for securing an accompanist is strictly up to the artist and should be determined in the initial phases of preparation for the Competition.
7. The competition is NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Only Judges, performers, accompanists, and page-turners (if required), are permitted in the audition room. Please do not bring anyone that is not involved in your performance, as they will not be permitted in the building.
8. Decisions of the Judges are final. Each performer will receive a set of Judge’s comments by mail.
9. The Winner will be notified at the end of the day December 18th, 2011.

Two arias are required. Prepare an aria from the role(s) for which you wish to audition and an aria in Italian. In addition, please prepare an extended Italian recitative of your choice (from any opera) or a short spoken monologue in Italian.

Supporting roles/ensemble/scene program:

Prepare two arias or art songs in Italian, German, or French.
