General Info:

The College of Visual and Performing Arts (CVPA) at James Madison
University includes the School of Art, Design, and Art History, the School
of Theatre and Dance, the School of Music, the Institute for Visual
Studies, and the Madison Art Collection. CVPA consists of 1,100 students
and 160 full-time faculty and staff. We place high value on a well-rounded
higher education in the arts. In order to broaden and enrich the spectrum
of our student artists, the College is in need of a full-time individual to
represent our college in the recruiting processes, review portfolios, and
streamline admissions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with faculty and the college public relations coordinator to design
and implement recruiting material for all schools; represent the college at
recruiting fairs throughout Virginia and the east coast corridor; develop
and coordinate on-campus recruiting days, including fall open houses and
spring portfolio and audition days; manage all school admission
applications; handle personal contact with potential students and liaison
between students and appropriate faculty; make follow-up contacts with
perspective students who visit campus; coordinate college participation in
the admissions office special recruit events such as "Take a Look" and
"Choices;" recruit and supervise student staff to maintain recruiting
database, field questions from perspective students and staff college
recruitment events.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in a related field required, Masters preferred. The
successful candidate will possess a strong record of experience in
admissions and recruiting in higher education. The candidate will
demonstrate a commitment to excellent interpersonal communication
along with strong written communication skills. The candidate will
possess experience in designing and implementing recruiting materials
and planning and coordinating special events in regards to recruiting and
admissions. The candidate will be proactive in developing relationships
with prospective students. The candidate will have experience in
supervision of staff and/or students.

*May be invited to perform with the Springfield Symphony in the 2012-2013 season.

Audition Repertoire

Each entrant must submit three (3) copies of a CD recording of at least one movement of a major work with orchestral (piano) accompaniment. Vocalists should plan a presentation of about 8-10 minutes and may include more than one selection. Selections submitted on CD must be from the major work listed on the application. Please do not write on the CDs.

Finalists will perform the entire major work with orchestral (piano) accompaniment.

Eligibility Requirements

Must be between 18 and 24 years of age and enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies. (Exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Hellam Committee).

Ambitious Amateur Chamber Orchestra positions for violin and viola

Christian Cziotka, Artistic Director of newly formed amateur chamber orchestra, is looking for four violinists, and 2 violists. The rehearsals are on Saturday afternoons from 1PM to 3PM, and their first premier concert will be Saturday October 8th at 7PM.

Hello my name is Christian Cziotka, I am currently a Junior attending SUNY
Purchase College studying clarinet with Ayako Oshima (the wife of Charlie
Neidich) and conducting with Michael Adelson (staff conductor with the New
York Philharmonic). I am a born and raised New Yorker from the Upper East
Side of Manhattan and attended Talent Unlimited High School.

I am not looking for any musicians who
may feel they might drop out. I strive to have my Orchestra become so
successful that I will be able to pay my musicians.

My Orchestra is an exciting opportunity for College students to meet other
classical musicians who are in or out of college and/or in the real world. I
have musicians from the ages of 18 to 50 apart of my group. Some of my
musicians are college students/graduates from the NYC area (Mannes, Queens
College, etc.), freelance classically trained musicians, to people who have
been the Principle section leader of professional paid Orchestras in the US.

The Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar mission is to encourage autonomous artistry in emerging artist-level stephanie_1performers. The one-week program (initial pilot program) will provide daily masterclasses and vocal coachings along with time for research and personal exploration before coming together to share and discuss music making, related aesthetics, and what it means to be a performing artist in today’s society. The seminar will focus on art song in English (original to language).
